Project T.R.I.I.A. (Adaptable Iberian International Traction)

The project is under the sponsorship of the Spanish Ministry of transport and the European Union.
EU strategic target: Interoperability in freight railway transport.

TRIA is designing and building a locomotive with variable gauge

The project T.R.I.I.A. is the first real oportunity of developing an automatic variable gauge system for freight locomotives.
The project is covered under the 'Resilience, Transformation and Recovery' plan of the Spanish Ministry of transport, that is co-financed by the European Union.
The base technology used in this project is TRIA'S co-owned OGI 1.0 Variable gauge system, wich is already developed and homologated by ETH, in the field of variable gauge wheelsets for freight wagons.

The project T.R.I.I.A. is the definitive solution for freight transport across gauge frontiers. It will allow the transport of freight trains from the Iberian Peninsula to the rest of Europe, without the need of changing the locomotive at the border.
The Spanish experience with automatic variable gauge systems for passenger trains has been an enourmous success, with more than 40 years of operation and more than 100 million kilometers travelled.
The Spanish rail authorities and Transport Ministry are very commited to the development of the variable gauge technology for rail freight transport.
